Academic Vocabulary Words
Central Idea - The central idea (main idea) in a piece of writing is the point that the author wants you to remember most. What is the author trying to tell you?
Literary Text - A literary text is a piece of written material, such as a book or poem, that has the. purpose of telling a story or entertaining, as in a fictional novel.
Points of View - what the character or narrator telling the story can see (his or her perspective). The personal emotions of the characters.
Character - any person, animal, or figure represented in a literary work. Characters are essential to a good story, and it is the main characters that have the greatest effect on the plot or are the most affected by the events of the story.
***Character Traits- adjectives that describe character's personality or qualities that make. them who they are.
Text Features - all the components of a story or article that are not the main body of text. These include the table of contents, index, glossary, headings, bold words, sidebars, pictures and captions, and labeled diagrams.
